The project develops digital resources and a research base for the Livonian language through a series of targeted micro-studies. These studies address the needs of Livonian learners and users identified during efforts to expand Livonian-language use and acquisition.
The research covers key areas of linguistics—including lexicon, phonetics, grammar, and syntax—with the goal of defining urgently needed language norms and standards. Using existing Livonian digital resources, the project will improve and expand these tools by updating content and metadata and creating new materials essential for language learning and use.
The project is implemented in close cooperation with the community of Livonian speakers and learners, ensuring that resource development aligns with international policy frameworks on Indigenous languages. These stress the involvement of language communities in all stages of digital data and technology development and governance.
In parallel, the project will support the integration of Livonian resources into European language repositories to ensure broader access for research and future technology, while protecting the Livonian community’s sovereign rights to manage its digital assets.
